Current Schemes Major Research Equipment and Infrastructure Initiative The Major Research Equipment and Infrastructure Initiative is designed to provide UNSW with a world-class research environment to attract and retain a critical mass of research excellence. Whether it is in the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, or in Medical research, Science, Engineering and Technology, our investment in major research infrastructure and equipment is a strategic investment to enable our researchers to work at the cutting edge of local, national and international research.
Applicants must be members of the academic staff of the University, and on the payroll of the University or have been formally appointed according to established processes for Conjoint or Clinical appointments for Area Health Services or associated research institutions. Applications are submitted through, and ranked by, Faculties with the final decision on funding being made by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) in consultation with Deans and Associate Deans (Research).
The Scheme's Guidelines and Application Form provide further details. The closing date for 2008 applications (for funding in 2009) is set by each Faculty. Faculty Deans must submit their ranked list to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) by Friday 24 October 2008.
Vice-Chancellor's Postdoctoral Fellowships The University offers a number of Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships to attract outstanding post-doctoral scholars to conduct full time research at the University in any of its disciplines. The Fellowships aim to advance the research activities of the University by bringing to, or retaining in Australia, promising scholars. The Fellowships will be available from January 2009 for a period of three years and must be commenced within six months of an offer being made.
Fellowships are offered on the basis of merit to ARC and NH&MRC applicants that narrowly missed out on funding in the 2008 funding rounds. They target early career researchers with a strong track record relative to opportunity, and salaries range from Level A/6 to Level B/6 ($67,140 to $88,902 per annum plus superannuation @ 17%). These salary rates include a superable UNSW academic loading of $3,000 per annum payable to all academic staff (pro rata for fractional academic staff).
Other Internal Schemes A comprehensive review with a view to streamlining all internally managed research grant schemes was conducted in 2007 and new arrangements were set in place for 2008 and on.
Goldstar Grants are now awarded at the end of each calendar year on the basis of near success in major external funding rounds. The Faculty Research Grant Scheme is now run by Faculties, which are provided with complete flexibility on how to allocate budgets to support smaller research programs within UNSW. Please contact your Associate Dean (Research) for further information. Early Career Research Grants have become the responsibility of Faculties. The VC Childcare Support Scheme is now administered by the Human Resources Office. |
