ARC Linkage Round 1 09 Rejoinders - Advance Notice

Assessors Reports and the Rejoinder timeline
The Assessors Reports on applications for the 2009 Round 1 ARC Linkage Project application round will be posted onto GAMS on 23rd July 2008.  The Grants Management Office (GMO) will advise applicants as soon as we are notified.

The turn around time for Rejoinders is VERY tight - less than two weeks.

In addition 5000 characters is the maximum length allowed (approximately 500 words).

Therefore, you need to be able to access GAMs and compose a well argued and concise rejoinder within a very short timeframe as of 23 July.

Please note:

  • Only the first-named researcher on the proposal may edit and submit a rejoinder. Other named participants may view the rejoinder but do not have editing access.
  • You will be able to submit a rejoinder even if you have not received any Assessment Reports. Linkage applications under $50k per annum or only involving an APAI will not have been forwarded for assessment.

After your rejoinder is locally submitted, Grants Management Office staff read it from a general editorial perspective and, if the rejoinder is compliant with ARC requirements and reads well, we submit it to the ARC.  If there are aspects we think might need changing, then we contact you, providing you with the opportunity to change it.

We will be submitting 38 rejoinders in this round.  You will need to locally submit your rejoinder by lunchtime Friday 1 August to allow sufficient time for us to provide an editorial review and get back to all applicants with our advice.

Deadlines:

Rejoinders Open:                                   Now
Deadline for Strategic Review:                 5pm Tuesday 29 July (email or call James Walsh)
Deadline for local submission on GAMS:      noon Friday 1 August (not Monday afternoon as previously advised)
Deadline for Office submission:                 5pm Tuesday 5 August

How do I know that my rejoinder has been successfully submitted on GAMS?

Your GAMS screen for your DP application will show:

Rejoinder: Edit  View  ARC Submit

If your Rejoinder is less than 5000 characters, then your screen will display the following:

Rejoinder: Edit  View  Local Submit

To office submit, click on the local submit button.

If your GAMS screen shows only the following two options, then you have most likely exceeded the character limit and your rejoinder cannot be submitted:

Rejoinder: Edit  View

Please edit your rejoinder to reduce it to less than 5000 characters. Note: Microsoft Word will not count all spaces and code. The Microsoft Word count target is 4900 characters with spaces.

Support from Research Strategy Office
  • This year the Research Strategy Office (RSO) will provide one-to-one assistance and strategic advice to all applicants who request assistance in preparing their rejoinders.
  • James Walsh, Strategic Research Development Manager Industry will provide one-on-one advice on your rejoinder.
In order to access support from James please email your draft rejoinder to him at j.walsh@unsw.edu.au by Tuesday 29 July 2008. James will forward a critique of your rejoinder back with text marked up suggestions for change.

If you wish to make an appointment to discuss the rejoinder with James please email j.walsh@unsw.edu.au.
